Artist: Ericka Walker
Printed by Black Rock Editions, Santa Fe, New Mexico
Five-color lithograph
The Museum commissioned this poster by Ericka Walker to promote the Always New exhibition. Walker referenced some of Cheret's figure types in her design and used his lithography techniques. She often uses images of machinery in her work and included components of a 19th-century printing press on the right side of this image. Walker collaborated with Black Rock Editions to print the lithograph on a restored 19th-century French lithography press that Marinoni-Voirin manufactured around 1865. This belt-driven direct press inks the printing surface and feeds the paper mechanically, and it is similar to the kind Chéret would have used.
Walker is originally from Wisconsin and now teaches printmaking at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Canada.
